Houston Texans: Brandon Dunn does his job well in the trenches
Brandon Dunn of the Houston Texans is one of the more unsung players on the team entering the 2020 season.
The work that Houston Texans defensive lineman Brandon Dunn contributes during a given season might not be jumping off the stat sheets or even catch your attention, but he’s a credit to the defense and the success the defensive line has had in recent memory.
Dunn is entering his sixth season with the Texans and his eighth overall season in the NFL — he played his first two years with the Chicago Bears — and in each of the past three seasons, the tackle numbers have been in the mid-20s. Last season he even gained a sack, the first of his career.
Simply stated, the very best way to describe the nose tackle /defensive end Brandon Dunn is he’s not flashy, but he’ll play his role to a T and help those around him make the star-studded plays and hits.
Dunn knows he’s a hard-nosed player who comes to work and does his job. In a recent media conference, Dunn spoke about the upcoming season and the work he puts in for the Houston Texans in comments provided by NFL Communications:
"“I just come in and do my job. I know my job doesn’t get a lot of credit through the media, but I really was never looking for that. I was always just looking for a team win. Really just buying into my job and how can I help get better and help my team get better. That’s the only thing I’ve ever wanted to do and hopefully I’ve tried to get that job done. For me, it’s always just getting better, making some plays when the plays present themselves and helping my team win.”"
Having a team-oriented player like Dunn who wants the best for the Houston Texans defense is what is needed to not only make the superstars like J.J. Watt great on the defensive line, but it makes the whole defensive unit as a whole that much better.
Houston Texans News: Dunn is always available to play each season
Since 2017, Dunn has played in 46 games with 24 starts, including six this past season. Dunn also isn’t known for being a pass rusher for the Houston Texans with the one sack last season with one QB hurry, four pressures and two QB knockdowns as he played in 37 percent of the defensive snaps in 2019, equaling 398 plays.
Dunn had a respectable grade of 56.4 by Pro Football Focus last season with 11 solo tackles, and having Dunn on the roster is a must for the Texans because of the depth, experience and health he brings to the team. Dunn is usually available to play each and every week, so he can fill in during moments of the game when needed.
Like stated earlier, he’s a team player who is a team-first guy, and players like that are always great to have on the roster, especially for the 2020 Houston Texans during this strange and unpredictable pandemic offseason.
