Margus Hunt

Margus Hunt is one of the underrated additions the Houston Texans could sign to their defensive line. Hunt is hitting free agency after the Indianapolis Colts waived him to open up $4 million in cap space for their free-agent signings. Hunt had a down year production last season for the Colts that ultimately led to his departure from Indianapolis.

However, the Texans could sign Hunt to a small deal in hopes of recapturing the player the Colts saw in 2018. Hunt started a career-high 15 games for the Colts and posted his best statistical season up to date. He finished with 30 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, five sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery for the Colts.

A towering presence at 6’8, Hunt has the versatility to play on defense and contribute on special teams. Hunt has had a knack for blocking field goals ever since he left college with 17 blocked field goal and extra-point attempts. Hunt has four blocked kicks since entering the league in 2013, and he could be a player the Texans could use outside of their defensive scheme.

Although Hunt isn’t a pure nose tackle like Reader, he is a defender the Texans could move around the defensive line to their advantage, and he wouldn’t count towards the compensatory pick formula since he was waived.
