Texans: 5 second round prospects who are perfect fits in Houston
Ross Blacklock, DT, TCU
There is a good chance that D.J. Reader’s new contract will price him out of Houston and that is OK because Reader has earned every cent of whatever his new contract will be. That said, the Texans could use their second round pick on a defensive tackle named Ross Blacklock.
From TCU, the 6-4, 305-pound Blacklock is a Texas native and is coming off a final collegiate season where he totaled 25 solo tackles and 3.5 sacks.
Blacklock is being projected to be a second-round pick by the Lindy’s Draft Magazine, and looking back at the season, Blacklock recorded all of his sacks by sixth game of the season but did record a solo tackle in every game but one last season.
Joe Marino of The Draft Network wrote about the power of Blacklock in his draft preview profile of the defensive tackle:
"“He’s got the goods: juice, power, size and motor to make plays. Love how he works to the edges of blocks and powers through gaps.”"
It might be a long shot the Texans select a defensive tackle so early in the draft as they have needs elsewhere on the roster — even on the defense — for more depth at the position, but the Texans could surprise us and make a move for the interior line in the second round.
