A Young Veteran

2. Melvin Gordon

Melvin Gordon and the Houston Texans could bring some very exciting football for the 2020 season and beyond. Gordon and the Los Angeles Chargers didn’t have the best ending to their relationship as a deal wasn’t worked out, but their loss could be the Texans’ gain.

Gordon would be a little cheaper than Derrick Henry as his Spotrac.com market value is $11.7 million per season, as a four-year contract would cost the Texans roughly $47 million.

The five-year running back played in 12 games this past season, with 12 starts. After ending his holdout over contract issues, Gordon played in 433 snaps where he totaled 612 yards rushing on 162 attempts. Though Gordon only rushed for 3.8 yards per carry, he did rush for eight touchdowns.

The 26-year-old Gordon also had 42 receptions for 296 yards and one score last season. For his career, Gordon has rushed for over 1,000 yards in a season just once, coming in 2017 when he totaled 284 carries for 1,105 yards with eight touchdowns.

Gordon has 1,059 carries in the regular season in his career, totaling 4,240 yards and 36 touchdowns. It would be very fun to see what Gordon could do with Deshaun Watson and an improved Texans defense. Now, the question is: would the Texans be willing to pay that type of price tag to add Gordon to the roster?
