Key decisions to make for Houston Texans free agents
Chris Clark, OT
34 years old, $930k: 8 games/7 starts
After Tytus Howard went down, he cemented his place on the offensive line at right tackle. With Howard coming back and expected to make a full recovery, Clark likely isn’t needed. Decision: Let Go
Phillip Gaines, CB
29 years old, $805k: 6 games/2 starts, 13 tackles
After being drafted in the third round out of Rice by the Kansas City Chiefs, Gaines has been serviceable but not spectacular. I see no reason why he shouldn’t be back. Decision: Re-sign
Tyrell Adams, OLB
28 years old, $720k: 5 games/2 starts, 13 tackles, 1 forced fumble
A decent depth piece that probably doesn’t factor to get much playing time. Decision: Re-sign
DeAndre Carter, WR/KR
27 years old, $570k: 11 rec/162 yards, 2 fumbles, 22 yards per kick return
Most famous for giving the Chiefs life after a fumble near the end zone on a kick return, Carter likely played his way out of town on that play alone. Decision: Let Go
Dylan Cole, ILB
26 years old, $559k: 11 games, 16 tackles
Cole was one of the best special team players on the Houston Texans and performed excellently when called upon as a depth piece on the inside. A torn ACL ended his season, but I would expect him back with the team this year. Decision: Re-sign
Roderick Johnson, OT
24 years old, $525k: 16 games/3 starts
Johnson helped out tremendously as a swing tackle who appeared on both sides of the line after Tytus Howard’s injury. Young, flexible and full of upside, he’ll be back. Decision: Re-sign
