The Houston Texans have maybe their toughest opponent in their franchise history ahead, with the Texans facing the New England Patriots on Sunday Night Football.

Week 13 for the Houston Texans takes them to the home of Tom Brady, Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots, a franchise the Texans have defeated only once in 11 past meetings. The lone time the Texans defeated the Patriots was all the way back in 2010 when the Texans won by a 34-27 score in Houston.

Since that day, the Texans have lost eight straight times to New England, including five times since December 2015. Last season, the Texans lost to the Patriots, 27-20, and the year before that Houston played even closer with a 33-30 loss.

Those two previous meetings were the two times the Texans had Deshaun Watson as the starting quarterback, and this year will be no different for the Texans under center, because it is the “future” of the NFL in Watson against the six-time Super Bowl champion Brady.

Though the Patriots have a better overall record (10-1) compared to the Texans (7-4) entering this game, both quarterbacks are having interesting seasons, to say the least.

Brady this season has passed for 2,942 yards with 15 touchdowns and five interceptions. Watson has passed for 2,899 yards with 20 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Both are two of the very best quarterbacks in the league, and this will make for a great matchup on Sunday Night Football.

For Houston, this will be their second straight primetime game with the Texans coming off a tough 20-17 AFC South win on Thursday Night Football against the Indianapolis Colts. That win put the Texans in sole possession of first place in the AFC South with five games left on the schedule.

New England is also coming off a big win as they defeated the Dallas Cowboys, 13-9, moving them to their 10th win of the season, and they are also currently the No. 1 ranked team in the AFC East and in the AFC Playoff picture.

For the Texans, it is very simple — a win against the Patriots will be very tough to achieve. The Action Network has the Patriots at -3 favorites against the Texans, so even those with the betting odds see another close game between the two teams.

The game will come down to two things, and that is whether the Texans can have another stellar outing from Watson like they have most of the season, and whether the secondary of the Texans can cause some trouble with the wide receivers of New England.

The Patriots — even at 10-1 overall —  have had their share of struggles compared to past teams they’ve had. For Houston, whenever the game is close and Watson is on the field they are in the game, and that could be the case this Sunday night.
