All hands on deck with Houston Texans losing 3 starting defensive backs in Week 9
By Jair Lopez
The Houston Texans’ banged-up secondary will have to find a way to persevere with injuries sidelining three starters on the roster.
The Houston Texans (5-3) will face a tough task with the Jacksonville Jaguars (4-4) hunting to stay in the playoff race at the midpoint of the regular season. Texans will be in uncharted territory as they face the Jaguars in London, England, in Week 9. This will be the first time the Texans travel to Europe to play an NFL game, and they will have to do so without three of their starting defensive backs in the secondary.
Tashaun Gipson, Lonnie Johnson Jr., and Bradley Roby were ruled out for the trip to London in a game that Houston needs all their players to further distance themselves from the Jaguars in the race for the top of the AFC South.

Texans will be moving forward with Gareon Conley, Keion Crossen, Cornell Armstrong, and Briean Boddy-Calhoun as healthy cornerback options against the Jaguars.
Although in better news, the Texans could be welcoming Johnathan Joseph back into the starting lineup after dealing with several injuries in the last few games. Joseph was a full participant in practice this week despite being listed on the injury report with a neck issue.
Gipson’s absence for a consecutive week will be due to lingering wrist and back injuries that will require the Texans to move forward with Jahleel Addae to accompany Justin Reid at the safety position. Texans will also have A.J. Moore and Mike Adams as backups in case they are needed against the Jaguars.
Texans secondary will have a challenge with the Jaguars seem to have found their answer at quarterback with Gardner Minshew in his rookie season.
Having no J.J. Watt for the rest of the season puts less margin for error the Texans defense, and they will have to make adjustments to continue to contend for one of the coveted playoff spots in 2019.
