Ka’imi Fairbairn

Houston Texans kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn is one of the head-scratchers on the list that really shouldn’t be here. In an ideal world, Fairbairn would have picked up where he left off last season and been one of the better kickers in the NFL for a second season straight to put himself in position to cash in as a free agent in 2020.

Fairbairn had a breakout season in 2018, finishing with career-high across the box score. However, he has struggled to put the football across the uprights in 2019. The issues in part have to be with the process of working with another holder after switching from Trevor Daniel to Bryan Anger. Fairbairn didn’t have a single missed kick with Daniel through his first two weeks going two for two in field-goal attempts and five for five on extra points.

With Anger as the new holder, Fairbairn has gone 9 of 12 on field goals and 16 of 20 on extra points. Fairbairn is currently 78.6 percent of his field-goal attempts, 84 percent on his extra points, but hasn’t missed a kick for two consecutive games. Those numbers will have to improve for the Texans to have more success down the stretch of the regular season.
