1. Gerald McCoy, DE, Panthers

This season, Gerald McCoy has 16 total tackles, 2.5 sacks and one pass defensed. McCoy’s contract is up at the end of the season as he’ll become a free agent then, so most likely if the Texans really do want him on their roster, the cost wouldn’t be a whole lot.

It would be tough for any player to jump right in for the Texans this week as they will be on the road in London, England to gain any playing time, but after that game the Texans will have a bye, and then they could have a player like McCoy rolling along in full gear with the defense.

The question for the Texans is can they even get the Carolina Panthers to trade McCoy? They are also in a battle for a playoff spot with their 4-3 overall record, and they are in second place in the NFC South as well.

Since 2012, McCoy has had no less than five sacks in a season, including the past two seasons with six sacks in both 2017 and 2018.

Yes, this is possibly just a rental situation for McCoy through the end of this season, but the Texans can’t go the rest of the way with their current roster of defensive ends and pass rushers if they are serious about being contenders in the AFC.
