The Houston Texans have brought in cornerback Trevor Williams for a workout with injuries plaguing the secondary.
According to Aaron Reiss of The Athletic, the Houston Texans are expected to bring veteran free agent cornerback Trevor Williams in for a workout. Williams is the second cornerback the Texans bring in for a workout after E.J. Gaines came to Houston early in the week for a visit of his own.
Williams signed with the Los Angeles Chargers after going undrafted in 2016, he started in 27 of the 39 games with the Chargers but injuries a role in his time in Los Angeles. Williams dealt with a string of knee injuries the last two seasons that placed him on the injured reserve. He was relatively healthy the 2019 season but was placed on the injured reserve for his third time due to a quadriceps injury.
The Chargers and Williams agreed to part ways through an injury settlement, and he signed with the Arizona Cardinals for a short stint. Williams has 100 tackles, 22 pass deflections, three interceptions, and one fumble recovery through his four seasons in the league.
The Texans have been looking to bolster their depth at cornerback with Bradley Roby dealing with a hamstring injury, and Phillip Gaines placed on the IR with undergoing season-ending ankle surgery. Cornerback Johnathan Joseph has dealt with health issues of his own and is limited in practice due to neck and hamstring injuries.
Williams makes sense for the Texans as he played his collegiate football in Penn State while Bill O’Brien was the head coach for the Nittany Lions. Texans’ Linebackers coach John Pagano is also familiar with Williams as he was the defensive coordinator for the Chargers from 2012 to 2016.
