The Houston Texans used a strong second half to defeat the Atlanta Falcons in what has to be considered their best offensive performance of the season.

How about those Houston Texans on Sunday in Week 5 as they played their best offensive game of the season — one week removed from one of their worst performances — for a 53-32 win over the Atlanta Falcons.

The Texans trailed the Falcons by a 17-16 score at halftime, but the second half was a whole different story as the Houston Texans scored 37 points in the final two quarters, setting a franchise record for points scored in a half.

Houston’s defensive effort wasn’t too bad either, with the Texans ending the game with a 79-yard pick-six by Tashaun Gipson.

For the game, the Texans’ offense totaled 592 yards, including an excellent performance by Deshaun Watson as the third-year quarterback continues to show his progression as one of the better QBs in the entire NFL.

Watson not only passed for the aforementioned 426 yards, but he was 28-of-33 with five touchdowns and zero interceptions. Maybe better yet, he was sacked zero times, which is an improvement from any game played thus far in 2019 or for a majority of Watson’s career.

Again, the Texans proved once again on Sunday they have the ability to be a strong offensive unit, and besides the excellent passing by Watson, what helped this unit was the improved play of the offensive line, plus the Texans had a rushing game against the Falcons.

Houston didn’t put up any solid rushing numbers last week, but against Atlanta they got the job done by grinding out yardage on a total of 119 yards on a combined 30 carries from the duo of Carlos Hyde and Duke Johnson. Hyde finished with 21 carries for 60 yards and one touchdown, and Johnson had nine carries for 59 yards.

Also, how about Will Fuller? Fuller was maybe the player of the game for the Texans, or at least tied with Watson, as he collected 217 yards on 14 receptions (16 targets) with three touchdowns. Fuller capped off a great game — his best of the season — with a 44-yard touchdown reception, putting the game away for good.

Hopkins followed with seven receptions for 88 yards on eight targets. Even Keke Coutee totaled three receptions (four targets) for 72 yards receiving.

Jahleel Addae led Houston with 10 tackles, D.J. Reader had a tackle for loss and J.J. Watt gained a sack.

For this being a rapid reaction, the Texans offense has to be proud of their effort, and for that, they deserve praise for the points and numbers they put up on Sunday against the Falcons. This was the performance the Texans have been looking for all season long, and they should be very proud of their effort on Sunday, responding from how they played a week ago.
