The Houston Texans didn’t have what was needed to gain a win in Week 4 on Sunday, and head coach Bill O’Brien knew his team “didn’t do a good job.”

Though the game was close throughout and the Houston Texans had their opportunities to win the game, it wasn’t in the cards for them to defeat the visiting Carolina Panthers, with the visitors winning by a 16-10 score.

Texans head coach Bill O’Brien saw his team fall to 2-2 after four games played in 2019, but in quotes provided by the media department of the Houston Texans he didn’t hold back in the postgame press conference.

In the postgame press conference, O’Brien was asked about losing the game, and he had the following to say about the loss, the trick play call and the offense as a whole:

"“It was bad. We didn’t do a good job and we’ve got to do a better job.”“Yeah, bad play call. Bad play call.”“It was terrible. We’ve got to do better. I don’t know. I don’t really have any answers. I’ve got to go back and watch the film. I have to start that like right now. That’s what I’m going to try to do.”"

Well, at least O’Brien finally realized the offense was “terrible,” because on Sunday it was. There was no doubt about it — it was the worst offensive performance of the season, even worse than the one the unit put up in Jacksonville.

Saying they didn’t do a good job is one thing, but this has been an issue for more than in the Week 4 loss, and saying he doesn’t have any answers isn’t good either. The fans of the Texans deserve a better explanation of what happened on Sunday.

As for the trick-play wide receiver throw by DeAndre Hopkins, which went for an interception, O’Brien saying it was a “bad play call” is keeping it kind, but at least it’s honest. When the play was occurring, it was one of the moments you yell “NO!” at the TV screen, and when the interception occurs, it leaves you shaking your head.

O’Brien then saying the offense was terrible on Sunday is true, too. Hopkins led the team in receiving with 41 yards, and most of those were in the fourth quarter. There was the play of Watson, where he continued to hold onto the football a little too long, but receivers must have not been getting open either as the duo of Hopkins and Will Fuller totaled 64 yards. Fuller had two receptions for 23 yards, and that isn’t going to cut it if teams want to win in the NFL.

There is plenty of blame to go around with this offensive performance by the Texans totaling 264 yards of offense and never getting into a rhythm on a consistent basis.

The only thing this team can do is learn quickly from this performance on offense, and they had better hope they play better next week against the Atlanta Falcons, or it could result in a loss against a team that has their own struggles.
