The New York Jets have signed wide receiver Vyncint Smith from the Houston Texans practice squad.
Houston Texans second-year wide receiver, Vyncint Smith, found a new home after being signed off the practice squad to join the New York Jets 53 man roster. The Jets released quarterback David Fales to open up a roster spot to bring in the wide receiver.
Smith has earned another opportunity to pursue a career in an active roster after spending his rookie season with the Texans. Smith signed with the Texans after going undrafted in 2018 from Limestone College as a divisional II athlete.
Texans were intrigued with Smith’s potential to keep him on the 53 man roster as a rookie, but he wasn’t able to keep his roster spot going into his second season. However, he landed a spot on the practice squad and was one of the priority receivers to be promoted to the active roster in case of injury. Smith played seven games in his first season in the league and finished with five receptions for 91 receiving yards and a touchdown reception against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reported the Texans signed rookie wide receiver Tyron Johnson to take over the vacant roster spot on the practice squad. Johnson signed with the Texans as an undrafted free agent and had an intriguing training camp and preseason, but was unable to secure a spot on the final roster.
He signed with the Buffalo Bills practice squad after being waived by the Texans but was able to return to Houston after being released last week by the Bills.
