3. Was this Jordan Akins’ “breakout game?”

Sunday was the performance the Houston Texans have most likely been waiting on since last season from second-year tight end Jordan Akins, catching his first two touchdown receptions of his career.

Akins had his first career touchdown off a 15-yard reception, and later he had an outstanding play where he caught a pass and raced 53-yards to the end zone for six points. Both of those touchdowns were really needed by the Texans on Sunday, and they proved to be huge difference makers in the games.

If Akins can play like he did on Sunday and take advantage of the opportunities when presented to him, maybe he’ll be the tight end that jumps ahead in the depth chart, because so far this season he’s stood out the most with this performance.

The second-year tight end finished with three receptions for 73 yards, being the second-leading receiver for the team against the Los Angeles Chargers. Time will tell if the Texans will continue to use Akins like they did on Sunday as he was targeted five times by Deshaun Watson. If so, and Akins continues to makes clutch catches, it will be exciting to see how far this offense can go from here on out.
