The Houston Texans have a quarterback who is getting nationally recognized as a Top 10 quarterback in the NFL entering Week 2.

Those in the national media are noticing what Houston Texans fans already knew, and that is that quarterback Deshaun Watson is one of the best quarterbacks in the entire NFL, and not just in the AFC South.

Ali Bhanpuri, Tom Blair, Gennaro Filice and Dan Parr, all of NFL.com, released their QB Index for Week 2, where they rank all 32 quarterbacks in the league. Entering the second week of the season, the quartet of NFL writers have Watson as the eighth-ranked quarterback in the league, with Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz ranked just ahead of him at seventh and Matt Ryan of the Atlanta Falcons at ninth overall.

In the article, the following is said about Watson by Parr:

"“The former Clemson QB gives his team a chance to win pretty much every time he takes the field. Watson is 14-9 as a starter in the regular season, and all nine losses have come by one possession.”"

The article has reigning NFL MVP and Kansas City Chiefs signal caller Patrick Mahomes as the top-ranked quarterback in the league.

Watson is coming off a game where he led the Texans to a go-ahead touchdown with 37 seconds left in the game against the New Orleans Saints, although the Saints drove down the field and won the game against the Houston defense.

Watson’s performance showcased the skills he has as the starting quarterback of the Texans, finishing the game 20-of-30 for 268 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. He also carried the football four times for 40 yards and a touchdown.

Sure, sometimes Watson holds on to the football for a little too long, and yes, the offensive line allows their franchise quarterback to be hit way too many times — including being sacked on six occasions — but he has shown and proven he’s an upper-tier quarterback with even more room to grow as this season continues.

Houston faces the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 2, and Watson and the Texans went 2-0 against that franchise last season, giving Watson another chance this season to show just how good of a quarterback he’s become and where he is headed up the ladder in the QB rankings each week.
