Vyncint Smith headlines Houston Texans’ practice squad
The Houston Texans have brought back wide receiver Vyncint Smith and several other players to the practice squad after roster cutdowns to get to the 53-man roster.
Vyncint Smith is returning to the Houston Texans after being released from the 53-man roster. According to a report by Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, Smith is being added to the practice squad of the team.
Having Smith return to the team, even on the practice squad is a very smart move by the Texans. Smith will now be able to spend another season with the Texans, continuing to work on their offensive system, and working on his overall skills to earn a spot back on the 53-man roster.
Wide receiver Steven Mitchell has also reportedly signed to the Texans practice squad and will be the second receiver on the list with a season under his belt after playing in the last game of the regular season against the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2018. Texans also added offensive tackle Rick Leonard, running back Karan Higdon, and quarterback Alex McGough to their practice squad on offense.
McGough will be the quarterback that is expected to be promoted if any injuries occur on the active roster. Meanwhile, Leonard earned another season on the Texans practice squad after being drafted last year in the fourth round by the New Orleans Saints. He was waived by the Saints but spent the majority of his rookie season on the Texans practice squad.
The Texans signed rookie defenders, Chris Johnson, Albert Huggins Jr., and Austin Exford to their practice squad after having promising preseasons as undrafted free agents. Inside linebacker Tyrell Adams also signed to the Texans practice squad after spending several stints last season before promoted to the active roster and contributing on special teams.
Texans signed rookie outside linebacker, Wyatt Ray, with their final practice squad slot. Ray signed with the Cleveland Browns after going undrafted but was waived as the Browns made their cutdowns for their final roster.
