The Houston Texans played Deshaun Watson for one drive against the Detroit Lions Saturday night, leading to a touchdown.

The Houston Texans took to the field on Saturday night, and in doing so fans had the chance to see starting quarterback Deshaun Watson for one drive, which led to a touchdown pass from Watson to DeAndre Hopkins. The drive also had good points — and bad points — for the now third-year quarterback of the Texans.

In his lone drive on the field, Watson finished 5-of-7 for 60 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions, showing a glimpse of how strong the Texans’ offense can be with the proper protection up front.

Watson’s first completion was to tight end David Fells to 13 yards, followed a couple plays later with Watson finding Hopkins for 13 yards on a second down play, showing there wasn’t a lot of rust on the arm of the franchise quarterback with the nice pass. Next came a third straight completion when Watson connected with DeAndre Carter for a 12-yard gain and another first down.

Again, Watson found a fourth straight completion with Carter having a catch of 18 yards and a first down.

Watson’s first incompletion came at the Detroit 14-yard line, and later he had a second incompletion on first-and-goal.

Two plays later, Watson had the aforementioned touchdown pass to Hopkins with a 4-yard catch on third-and-goal. Also on the drive, Watson had a 5-yard rush.

Hopkins finished his lone drive with two receptions on three targets for 17 yards.

The drive itself was productive and equaled six points, but there were also a couple parts of that drive that led to a couple worrisome moments, with one of those being Watson was holding onto the football too long for comfort.

Though one play ended with a completion to Carter, the play itself for the preseason was a bit on the stressful side as it took the receivers too long to get open against the Lions’ secondary. Plus, Watson scrambled a good amount too, and with the history of the Texans’ offensive line … well, at least that play worked out for the best.

Even with the stress of the situation watching Watson scramble a bit out of the pocket, kudos should go out to the offensive line for not having a holding call on them as the play took a little time to develop.

As for the scoring drive engineered by Watson and Co., next are a couple plays from the scoring drive from the official NFL Twitter page and the official Twitter page of the Houston Texans.

Next is the touchdown pass with the duo of Watson-to-Hopkins back together like old times, not missing a beat.

It was a bit of a surprise to see the Texans’ offense look relatively strong this early in the preseason, but they did. Next week when the Texans take the field for what is usually the dress rehearsal game of the preseason, that drive alone should give the offense some confidence. Still, the defense of the Dallas Cowboys will provide a tough test.

With Watson’s and Hopkins’ preseason halfway over following their touchdown, the excitement has to be there, but even with the six-point touchdown throw by Watson, he has to learn to get rid of the ball faster, because when Week 1 arrives against the New Orleans Saints, they are no joke.
