The Houston Texans begin their preseason schedule Thursday night on the road as they’ll face the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.

The first preseason game of the 2019 season is here for the Houston Texans. Thursday will be a good first step for the franchise to see where they stand one season removed from winning 11 games and capturing the AFC South championship.

Houston will be on the road and taking on the Green Bay Packers, a team the Texans haven’t played in the regular season since Dec. 4, 2016. That game, the Texans lost to the Packers, 21-13 at Lambeau Field. As for their regular season history, Footballdb.com says the Texans are 1-3 all-time against Green Bay in the regular season, with the Texans’ lone win coming on Dec. 7, 2008 by a 24-21 score.

Though this is the preseason, there is still a lot to watch for with the Texans as they will most likely play many reserve players. Be prepared to see players battling for roster depth spots, and at this point of the schedule that is what the preseason games are for.

Many should be excited to be able to watch the offensive line rookies in Tytus Howard and Max Scharping. It is going to be fun to see where the are in comparison to the offensive linemen from last season, because as many know the offensive line needs help fast when looking back at last season.

Another player who would be exciting to see take some snaps in this game is Kahale Warring. Warring is the rookie tight end of the Texans many believe  can become a difference maker on the roster.

It is a shame that A.J. McCarron has a thumb injury and won’t be playing as the backup quarterback anytime soon, but that means more of Joe Webb and what he can offer as a quarterback. The question is will the injury hamper McCarron’s chances of making the roster if Webb performs well this preseason?

This preseason opener in Green Bay will be a nice test for the Texans because it will give Houston some in-game film to evaluate players, and we’ll finally see the rookies in game day action.

Next. Texans should like what they are seeing from Lonnie Johnson. dark

Even though the two teams have been having joint practices this week — with a few heated moments at times — finally playing in an actual game day atmosphere will be good for this team, especially the younger players on the roster.
