Houston Texans address outside linebacker depth with Gimel President

Houston Texans sign outside linebacker Gimel President to their 90 man roster.

The Houston Texans announced that they have signed outside linebacker Gimel President after releasing former 2017 third-round draft pick running back, D’Onta Foreman. The former Texas longhorn running back was released after a poor showing through the Texans first couple of weeks in training camp. Foreman had a steep hill to climb after coming back from a serious Achilles injury his rookie season.

President is making his return to Houston after signing with the Texans as an undrafted free agent in 2017. Playing his collegiate football from the University of Illinois, he competed with other players through Texans’ training camp and preseason and made enough of an impression to earn a roster spot on their ten-player practice squad.

He was ultimately promoted from the practice squad to the Texans active roster in his first year in the league and played four games. President finished with two tackles and contributed primarily on special teams in his rookie season.

President was waived after his rookie season by the Texans and was claimed off waivers by the Tennessee Titans as he rejoined with the new head coach and former Texans’ linebacker coach, Mike Vrabel. He was on and off the Titans practice squad through the 2018 season before finally being released this week.

President will be joining the Texans group of outside linebackers that are in need of more depth with Jadeveon Clowney training on his own separate account and Duke Ejiofor being out for the season with an Achilles injury.
