When talking about the best in the NFL, one player who needs mentioned more is Houston Texans kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn.

The Houston Texans have multiple star players on their roster, including Deshaun Watson, Jadeveon Clowney, J.J. Watt and DeAndre Hopkins to name a few, but there’s one player who should also be mentioned but never is.

Having four players named in NFL Network’s Top 100 — and you could even argue that Benardrick McKinney got snubbed — as he made the Pro Bowl but not the Top 100, but there is someone else who needs more mentions this preseason and his name is Ka’imi Fairbairn.

The Texans have arguably the best kicker in the league, and somehow no one ever talks about Fairbairn. You always hear about Justin Tucker and Greg Zuerlein, but again there never any talk about Fairbairn.

This is actually mind-blowing as Fairbairn scored more points than any other kicker last season. More than just that, Fairbairn made the most field goals in the league last season and scored more points than any other non-quarterback, en route to setting a franchise record for most kicks made in a single season.

Fairbairn was tied for the fifth most kicks of 50-plus yards and had the most kicks in the league of 40-49 yards, but you never hear about anyone talking about him.

Granted it could be partly because no one talks about kickers, but even when they do, you don’t hear about Fairbairn.

Even more of a travesty was the fact that Jason Myers of the New York Jets was named as the AFC’s Pro Bowl Kicker last season and not Fairbairn. Myers had less points scored than Fairbairn as he made both less field goals and extra points than Fairbairn, so it was surprising Fairbairn wasn’t named the kicker.

Another example of how Fairbairn has been overlooked was the 2019 All-Pro team.

Tucker of the Baltimore Ravens was named First Team All-Pro, when Fairbairn also made more kicks and extra points than Tucker. Aldrick Rosas of the New York Giants was named the second-team kicker, yet he also had less field goals made and less extra points made than Fairbairn.

As a Texans fan, I personally think back to the days of Kris Brown, which weren’t too long ago. It seemed like every time the game was on the line, Brown always missed the kick. We shouldn’t overlook the fact that we’ve got one of the best players at his position on our own team.

I don’t actually know the reason for the lack of recognition for Fairbairn, but based on the numbers he’s arguably the best kicker in the league as he needs to be in the top kicker conversation more this season.
