Houston Texans training camp will have some starters sidelined later this week.

Houston Texans have announced that J.J. Watt, DeAndre Hopkins, and DeAndre Carter have been placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list. Meanwhile, Texans have placed rookie linebacker Jamal Davis II, defensive lineman Walter Palmore, and tight end Kahale Warring on the Active/Non-Football Injury list.

It is not too much of a concern for Watt and Hopkins to be sidelined for the early portion of training camp as they are veterans that know the inner workings of a Texans training camp. Both were reported to have had surgery for respective injuries that occurred during this past season.

However, the trio of Texans’ rookies will have to return as soon as possible to their training camp program and preseason activities so they can get acclimated to the expectations set by the coaching staff.

Davis II is one of the many outside linebackers that will have more reps to show off his talent after Jadeveon Clowney will report later to camp due to not working out a new contract extension and Duke Ejiofor being lost for the season with an Achilles injury.

The same goes for Palmore who was signed as an undrafted free agent from the University of Missouri. Undrafted free agents have a finite number of chances in the league and it is important that they make the most of it as they make the transition from college to the NFL.

Warring will have an easier path to practice time than his other rookie teammates as he was the Texans third-round draft selection in the 2019 NFL draft. He was seen as an intriguing developmental prospect coming into the league and will have the opportunity to learn from Jordan Thomas and Jordan Akins as they are entering their second season in the league.
