The New England Patriots have issued tampering charges against the Houston Texans as they solicited permission to interview the vice president of player personnel, Nick Caserio.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the New England Patriots have filed tampering charges against the Houston Texans as they are looking to fill their void at the general manager position by interviewing Patriots’ vice president of player personnel, Nick Caserio. The NFL will now have to open up an investigation against the Texans and look into the evidence the Patriots present against the Texans.

However, it is important to remember that this move isn’t necessarily an illegal or unexpected move for the Patriots since they do not want to lose a valuable front office employee like Caserio to an AFC rival without putting up a fight. Patriots can’t block the Texans from interviewing Caserio since they are no longer playing in the season.

Texans were unable to interview Caserio in their last general manager search as the Patriots were still in the playoffs competing for an opportunity to play in the Super Bowl.

Depending on the likely outcome of the investigation, this move likely won’t deter the Texans from pursuing Caserio since the Patriots will have to prove without a reasonable doubt that the Texans committed the offense.

Patriots will have to present clear and concrete evidence against the Texans to the league proving there was illegal communication between Caserio and the Texans. The biggest thing tying both teams and presenting the accusation of tampering is Jack Easterby.

He was hired as the Executive Vice President of Team Development for the Texans after serving as the Team Development Director/Character Coach for the Patriots. Easterby was invited to the Patriots ring ceremony where Caserio was also present. However, a few pictures of Caserio and Easterby at the ring ceremony doesn’t scream foul play, and it isn’t sufficient evidence to severely punish the Texans.

The fact that the Patriots resorted to filing for tampering is rather interesting and could indicate that the interest is mutual between Caserio and the Texans.
