Former Indianapolis Colts running back Josh Ferguson is creating positive momentum in Houston Texans’ early offseason activities.
Houston Texans are looking for a running back to enter into the fold after Alfred Blue signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars to a one year deal in free agency. Texans don’t have a lot set in place at the running back position after Lamar Miller and D’Onta Foreman are expected to take the majority of the carries within the offense.
Texans need a third running back on the roster that can carry a minor role in the running game and be able to contribute in other facets of the game. Josh Ferguson is a running back with the ability to catch the football out of the backfield and play on special teams.
Undrafted out of Illinois in 2016, Ferguson signed with the Indianapolis Colts as a rookie and earned a spot on the Colts’ active roster. Ferguson played two seasons with the Colts before being waived ahead of the 2018 season. He finished with 16 carries for 25 rushing yards and 23 receptions for 152 receiving yards. Ferguson also contributed on special teams as their punt and kick returner, he finished nine kick off returns for 166 yards.
According to Drew Dougherty of Texans TV, Ferguson has already created some buzz within the organization.
Signed to the Texans practice squad during the 2018 season, Ferguson had the opportunity to be within the organization and work with the coaching staff in the scout team. He will be entering his second season with the Texans with a better understanding of what they expect from him within the team.
