The Houston Texans are on a search for their next general manager after firing Brian Gaine on Friday. Who could be some of the potential candidates?

How about the Houston Texans dropping that bombshell for a Friday evening? The franchise announced the firing of Brian Gaine as general manager and their search for a new general manager, less than two full years after having the same search for when they hired Gaine in the first place.

This decision made by the Texans was explained by Texans Chairman and CEO Cal McNair in a statement released by McNair and the Texans at HoustonTexans.com:

More from Houston Texans News

"“After a thorough evaluation of our football operations, we have decided to relieve Brian Gaine of his duties as general manager. Brian is a man of high character and we appreciate his contributions to our organization…”"

The full statement can be viewed here, but it went on to state the Texans would “begin an immediate search for a new GM,” and so on … you know the usual speak when teams are looking for a new general manager.

The decision to switch from Gaine seems a bit fast, and maybe it had something to do with the relationship of Gaine and Texans head coach Bill O’Brien, but any way it’s viewed, the Texans are in need for a new general manager, and that is where we are here to help.

There are many talented people available to take the spot of Gaine and have success — though Gaine’s team did make the playoffs in 2018 and win a AFC South championship — but that’s all in the past now, and it is time to look to the future.

Listed below are various possible candidates for the Texans general manager role. Some would be a huge surprise if hired, and others could be “well, I should have seen that coming” type of signing.

Either way, whomever the Texans sign, it will be the most important decision the franchise needs to make this offseason, and maybe a decision they’ll give the proper time to achieve long-term success.
