Joel Heath

The Houston Texans currently have J.J. Watt, D.J. Reader, Brandon Dunn, Angelo Blackson, Carlos Watkins, and Joel Heath competing to make the final roster once the training camp activities begin. This is without taking in consideration where they ultimately decide to play their fifth-round draft selection, Charles Omenihu, he has the frame to continue to add weight after weighing in at 280 pounds at the NFL scouting combine.

Texans also signed several intriguing defensive linemen to undrafted free agent deals after the draft concluded. Heath has been with the Texans since signing as an undrafted free agent from Michigan State in 2016.

He re-signed with the Texans to a one year deal during the offseason, but his future with the team is far from determined. Gaine decided to re-sign Blackson to a three year worth up to $12 million to the same position that Heath plays.

Heath’s time and knowledge in defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel’s defense is a slight advantage as he enters his fourth season in the NFL, but he will have to continue to convince the coaching staff that they should keep a sixth defensive lineman to a group that is already pretty set in terms of talent.
