3. Jay Ajayi, Running Back

How much do you believe in the current running back roster of the Houston Texans? Currently, the Texans’ running back roster consists of Lamar Miller, D’Onta Foreman, Josh Ferguson, Buddy Howell, and rookies Cullen Gillaspia, Karan Higdon and Damarea Crockett.

I’m sorry, but those running backs aren’t jumping off the page and screaming “no help needed” at the position. Rather, the Texans need to bring in another veteran running back to see if he can help add to their roster in some way. The player who should be given a look is Jay Ajayi, formerly of the Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Dolphins.

Ajayi has only lived up to his potential for one of his four previous seasons in the NFL, that being in 2016 as that year with the Miami Dolphins he rushed for 1,272 yards on 260 carries for eight touchdowns. That season, he averaged 4.9 yards per carry.

This past year with the Philadelphia Eagles, injuries held Ajayi to four games played (three starts), where he averaged 4.1 yards per carry and carried the ball 45 times for 184 yards with three touchdowns to his credit before tearing his ACL.

Signing Ajayi to a one-year deal would be beneficial to the Texans and for Ajayi, as the Texans could gain a player who is hungry to prove he’s still a viable option at running back in the league, while the Texans will get a one-year look at him as he and Lamar Miller would both be on their final year of their contract.

The Texans must add another veteran to the running back roster, and Ajayi could be that player who could be a diamond in the rough and still have something to prove to teams as he is coming off the aforementioned ACL tear from last season.
