The Houston Texans finalized their draft selections in the last day of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Houston Texans general manager Brian Gaine stayed true to his philosophy of trusting his draft board and kept his three draft picks for the final day of the NFL Draft. Texans had to sit out the fourth round with Gaine trading their pick during the previous trade deadline to acquire Denver Broncos veteran wide receiver, Demaryius Thomas.

Fifth Round

Gaine got great value in the fifth round of the 2019 draft by selecting University of Texas defensive lineman, Charles Omenihu. The Texas native from Rowlett embodies everything the Texans were looking in the mid-round of the draft in terms of length, size, and athleticism. Omenihu has elite arm length at his position with 36-inch arms.

He was productive his senior season with the Longhorns playing in all 14 games. He finished with 45 total tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, two pass breakups, and earned honorable mention in the All-Big 12. Texans were able to see Omenihu as he participated in this year’s Senior Bowl Week, and was one of the players the Texans worked out through the draft process.

Sixth Round

Texans continued to address their secondary with the addition of cornerback Xavier Crawford from Central Michigan. This move made a lot of sense as the Texans brought him as one of the 30 players they are allowed to bring in through the draft process. Crawford is the second cornerback Gaine drafted after taking Lonnie Johnson Jr. in the second round yesterday.

Seventh Round

Texans were able to finish their draft early after the Texans switched seventh-round draft picks with the Broncos when they traded for Thomas. Gaine drafted a hometown hero for the Texas A&M Aggies in Cullen Gillaspia. He came to the Aggie football program as a walk-on, earned a scholarship, and the honors of wearing the number 12 jersey. Gillaspia is a versatile player as he played linebacker, fullback, and on special teams in his time with the Aggies. His versatility is a plus for a player drafted late in day three.
