5. Week 1: at New Orleans Saints

Getting the season started off strong is of great importance for the Houston Texans because they don’t want to go through the very slow start to the season like last year when they lost the first three games.

It is unlikely the Texans will have a nine-game winning streak like they did in 2018, but the first game of the season is a tough test as the New Orleans Saints were not only a playoff team last season, they were a play or two away from advancing to the NFC East championship — remember the non-pass interference call — meaning the Saints are a very tough opponent to face in the very first game.

The Saints will bring not only Drew Brees as their leader to Week 1, but the Texans secondary better be ready to defend Michael Thomas, Tre’Quan Smith, Ted Ginn and Austin Carr at wide receiver.

The Texans better hope their secondary is rebuilt enough through free agency and the 2019 NFL Draft for them to contain the star players of the Saints, because this first game of the season will be an excellent measuring point as to where the teams stands early in 2019.
