3. Dalton Risner, Kansas State

Dalton Risner is a bit of a wild card but will most likely be selected in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft by some team for his overall abilities to be a productive lineman in the NFL. The Texans could really use that type of player because they struggled all over their offensive line last season, and not just at offensive tackle.

CBSSports.com wrote the following on the Kansas State offensive tackle in the draft profile of the 6-5, 312-pound Colorado native:

"“Despite a lack of prototypical size, Risner projects to the right tackle spot but has the mobility to play anywhere up front. “"

The word “versatile” really stands out in that statement because that is something the Texans could use this upcoming season, plus the mobility part could be a huge factor too as the Texans will have a bit of a faster-style offense, especially if starting quarterback Deshaun Watson decided to rush the football as much as he did last season (99 rushes, 551 yards, 5 touchdowns).

Risner has had many draft projections throughout the mock draft world, as high as the late first round, to the early stages of the second round, and even another mock draft has him being drafted in the third round.

It will be very interesting to see which mock draft is closest, but if he’s available at 54th overall and the Texans are still looking to add to their offensive line, Risner could be a very smart choice here. They would be getting a player who can play tackle, which is most important, but also a player who could be used elsewhere on the offensive line if called upon.

Houston has a big decision with he 54th and 55th overall picks In the draft, and they would be making a solid selection of Risner if he’s still available at this spot of the draft.
