Houston Texans 2019 NFL Draft: 3 cornerback targets for the second round
1. Rock Ya-Sin, Temple
Rock Ya-Sin is a special athlete as he is not only good at football, but in his NFL.com draft bio it says he was a high school state champion wrestler.
In his one season at Temple, Ya-Sin showed many he has the talent to play in the NFL. In 12 games at Temple he totaled 47 tackles (36 solo) with two tackles for loss, two interceptions and had 12 passes defensed.
The passes defensed number stands out because that will be key for the Texans this season, that is getting a cornerback who can really make life tough on the field for the opposing wide receivers. That is much needed because remember late in the 2018 season that hampered the Texans, especially against the Indianapolis Colts where Andrew Luck had his way with the defense, passing for huge numbers and winning the final two meetings between the two teams.
The Draft Network has the 5-11, 190-pound Ya-Sin as their 82nd overall ranked player with a third round grade, though some outlets have him with a second round grade.
One of those is Chad Reuter of NFL.com as in a mock draft last month he had Ya-Sin being selected by the Texans in the second round 54th overall.
The Texans really do need to make a cornerback come to their roster with one of their two second round picks, and Ya-Sin could be a surprise pick at one of those selections with just one season of football at Temple, but the draft is about taking chances sometimes and finding special players.
Ya-Sin could become one of those top players for the Texans if he is added to the defense that is already tough, but just needs help in the secondary.
