Free Agency: Goodbye Houston

Kareem Jackson, CB: Losing a career Houston Texans player like Kareem Jackson will be very different. Jackson played nine seasons with the Texans after being the 20th overall pick by the franchise in 2010. Jackson played in eight playoff games with the Texans and in his tenure with the franchise totaled 124 starts, 16 interceptions, three touchdowns, six forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, 559 tackles (468 solo), 22 tackles for loss and even four QB hits. Jackson signed a three-year, $33 million contract with the Denver Broncos.

Tyrann Mathieu, S: Though he only played one season with the Texans, the 2018 season helped Tyrann Mathieu prove to NFL franchises he still “had it,” and it resulted in a $42-million, three-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. Mathieu finished his one season with the Texans with the following stats: 16 starts, two interceptions, eight passes defensed, one fumble recovery, three sacks, four QB hits and 89 tackles.

More from Houston Texans Free Agency

Christian Covington, DT: The new home of defensive end Christian Covington is still in Texas, but he left the Houston Texans and joined the Dallas Cowboys with a one-year, $1.75 million contract. The Texans should be fine without him, but it would have been nice to see if Covington could still improve on his game while on defensive line rotation of the Texans. Covington’s four seasons with the Texans saw him total 65 tackles, 16 QB hits, 7.5 sacks and 11 tackles for loss in 50 games (nine starts).

Kendall Lamm, RT: The Houston Texans had Kendall Lamm on their roster for four seasons, where he made 24 starts in 55 total games. This free agency period, Lamm signed with the Cleveland Browns for two years, with a base salary of $4.5 million.

Alfred Blue, RB: The former Texans running back signed a one-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars. In his time with the Texans, Blue played in xx games 2,407 yards on 673 carries with eight rushing touchdowns.

Andre Hal, S: Hal played five seasons with the Texans and on April 2, 2019 he announced his retirement from the NFL. Hal played in 69 regular season games with the Texans from 2014-18 where he totaled 12 interceptions and one touchdown. Hal also battled and overcame Hodgkin’s lymphoma as he returned to the field in 2018.
