Former Cleveland Browns defensive back Briean Boddy-Calhoun signs with the Houston Texans.
According to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Houston Texans have agreed to a one year deal with Cleveland Browns former defensive back, Briean Boddy-Calhoun. He became an unrestricted free agent after the Browns decided not to tender him a contract for the upcoming 2019 NFL season.
Boddy-Calhoun is a versatile defender capable of playing both safety and the cornerback position. He played his collegiate football at the University of Minnesota before going undrafted in the 2016 NFL Draft. Boddy-Calhoun signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent but was released prior to the start of the regular season as the Jaguars assembled their 53 man roster.
He was claimed by the Browns and spent the following three seasons playing in the secondary and contributing in their special teams. Boddy-Calhoun started in 22 of the 43 games he’s played in the NFL, he’s had 132 total tackles, two tackles for loss, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, one sack,19 pass deflections, three interceptions, and one interception returned for a touchdown in his three seasons in the league.
Boddy-Calhoun is coming off his most productive season in the NFL, playing all 16 regular season games and starting in half of them. He had 56 total tackles, two pass deflections, and one forced fumble. Boddy-Calhoun will be a depth player for the Texans depth at cornerback and safety position and can be another contributor on Brad Seely’s special teams unit.
He will join cornerback Bradley Roby and safety Tashaun Gipson as Texans general manager Brian Gaine continues to make changes to the secondary in free agency.
