Christian Covington to sign with the Dallas Cowboys

Former Houston Texans defensive lineman Christian Covington to sign a deal with the Dallas Cowboys.
Houston Texans 2015 sixth-round draft pick, defensive lineman Christian Covington will be signing a one year deal with the Dallas Cowboys. Mark Berman of Fox 26 reported the move early Thursday morning. In his four seasons with the Texans, Covington played in 50 games and finished his career here in Houston with 65 total tackles, 7.5 sacks, 11 tackles for loss, 16 quarterback hits, and one forced fumble.
Covington was a solid rotational defender in his time with the Texans and showed glimpses of being an interior pass rusher, he finished the 2018 season having a career-best 3.5 sacks, eight quarterback hits, and four tackles for loss.
Texans seemed comfortable letting Covington explore his market after bringing back several players early in free agency. Texans general manager Brian Gaine inked Angelo Blackson to a three-year deal worth up to $12 million and re-signed Joel Heath and Brandon Dunn to team-friendly one-year deals. It was going to be difficult to find playing time for Covington moving forward with Texans deep defensive line rotation.
Covington could be an underrated defensive addition for the Cowboys if he is able to stay healthy. He has been banged up in the past and his injury early in the season essentially kept him from seeing significant playing time down the stretch with the Texans boasting a solid group of defensive lineman. Texans will have J.J. Watt, Carlos Watkins, D.J. Reader, Blackson, Dunn, and Heath moving into the 2019 season.
