Takeaways of Houston Texans re-signing Angelo Blackson

Houston Texans began their free agency by re-signing defensive lineman Angelo Blackson.
Houston Texans general manager Brian Gaine re-signed defensive lineman Angelo Blackson to the start of the 2019 NFL free agency. NFL insider Adam Caplan reported the move once the free agency period started.
Blackson was a former fourth-round pick of the Tennessee Titans in the 2015 NFL Draft and spent the first couple of seasons with the Titans prior to being waived. He signed to the New England Patriots practice squad in the 2017 season before the Texans signed him to the active 53 man roster due to a myriad of injuries.
Blackson finished the 2017 season with the Texans and played the last nine games with the defense. He had nine combined tackles, one pass deflection, and one quarterback hit. He was able to follow on the momentum the next season. Blackson played in all 16 games of the regular season and started in four games.
He had 24 combined tackles, one sack, two tackles for loss, a fumble recovery, three pass deflections, and two quarterback hits. Those are good numbers and production for a rotational defensive lineman capable of playing multiple positions across the defensive line.
Texans got a great defensive player at a great price at a 3-year deal worth up to $12 million. The move makes a lot of considering the Texans only had J.J. Watt, D.J. Reader, and Carlos Watkins under contract for the 2019 season. Christian Covington and Brandon Dunn are unrestricted free agents while Joel Heath is a restricted free agent.
