5. Zach Zenner

This name doesn’t jump off the page for most NFL fans, but Zach Zenner is a solid pro and would be a great addition for teams in the NFL to add to their overall depth. Zenner isn’t what could be described as a running back who is a superstar game-changer, but he could provide solid depth and he is coming off a season where he averaged 4.8 yards per carry with the Detroit Lions.

Zenner had 55 carries this past season in a reserve role with the Lions, but he did rush for 265 yards and three touchdowns, plus in the eight games he played in did make one start. Zenner also caught seven passes for 56 yards, averaging 8.0 yards per reception.

Again, Zenner wouldn’t be the long-term answer at running back for the Houston Texans, but he’s worth a look for the fact he is only 27 years old, and not only that, he seems to be a player who can do what ever the running back role needs to be in any certain situation. What is also nice about Zenner is his ability to catch passes out of the backfield.

This past season Zenner totaled seven receptions (10 targets), but back in 2016 he caught 18 passes (23 targets) for the aforementioned 56 yards, and three of his receptions went for a first down.

It will be interesting to see if the free agent Zenner makes the list of targets for the Texans, but it isn’t a bad idea for depth purposes to take a look at what the running back could bring to the roster.
