1. The Texans are built to win now

So you know that the Houston Texans have cap space and that Jadeveon Clowney is one of the better defenders in the NFL. You also probably know — based on the teams 2018 performance — that the Texans are built to compete for the Super Bowl in 2019. So why would they not resign one of their best players?

Seriously, why wouldn’t they?

J.J. Watt and Clowney when healthy have proven themselves as one of the better defensive duo combinations in recent memory. Each can individually wreck an offensive game plan, but when you mix the two together you get a combination that is nearly impossible to block on a consistent basis.

Getting to the quarterback correlates to success. After all, look at the top five sack teams (Kansas City, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Minnesota and New Orleans) in 2018 and look at the bottom five (Oakland, New England, New York Giants, Miami, Cincinnati). With exception of the New England Patriots, the bottom five teams found themselves ending the year with losing records, while the top five teams found themselves either in the playoffs or in the hunt.

Simply put, breaking up an already dominant pass rushing duo won’t lead to success unless your head coach is Bill Belichick. Therefore, I doubt rumors that the Texans wouldn’t want to keep their second best player at arguably the most important position on defense.
