Jared Veldheer, RT, Denver Broncos

2018 stats: 12 games started, 58th highest graded tackle in the NFL, per Pro Football Focus

Once upon a time, Jared Veldheer looked like a building block on the Arizona Cardinals offensive line after signing a large deal. Unfortunately for Veldheer, that was a long time ago. Although Veldheer started to play better towards the end of the Denver Broncos’ season, it wasn’t enough to save a PFF grade of 62.4, good for 58th in the NFL amongst active tackles.

Veldheer’s age is a big reason as to why the Texans should avoid him, as he will be 32 years old when the 2019 NFL season starts. His injury history is also a concern as he spent 2017 on injured reserve with the Cardinals midway through the season with a torn triceps. Veldheer also missed a stretch of games due to a knee injury with the Broncos in 2018.

Although the Texans desperately need answers at offensive tackle, hiring an injury prone regressing 32 year old is the furthest thing from the solution. However, I wouldn’t be surprised to give Veldheer a look if their offseason plans to bolster the position go south due to his experience, and massive 6-8 frame.
