Tyler Eifert, TE, Cincinnati Bengals
2018 stats: 4 games played (2 starts), 15 receptions, 179 yards, 1 touchdown
The Houston Texans have long needed a dominant force at tight end since Owen Daniels roamed the playing fields of Reliant Stadium back in the late 2000s. With that said, Tyler Eifert isn’t the answer.
Eifert — a 2015 Pro Bowler — has a bit of an injury history in recent memory. Despite having the talent to take over games and change the dynamic of an NFL offense, that injury report is less than ideal. Here are a few significant injuries in his past, according to Sports Injury Predictor:
- 2014, Week 1: dislocated right ankle, out for the season
- 2015, Week 14: concussion, out for two weeks
- 2015, Pro Bowl: torn ligament in the ankle, out first six games of the 2016 season
- 2016, Week 15: back strain, out for the season
- 2017, Week 2: disc bulge in the back, out for the season
- 2018, Week 4: broken ankle, out for the season
Those are just the more significant injuries. Short to say, if the Texans are looking for a consistent threat to revitalize their tight end group, taking a look at Eifert despite his talent is not advised.
