For those watching the Orlando Apollos vs. San Antonio Commanders thriller, Charles Johnson was the obvious choice for this spot. After all, he racked up 192 yards and a touchdown on the day, but he was the beneficiary of a struggling secondary that has failed to cover the deep ball. He will also be 30 years old by the end of February, which could hinder the Houston Texans or NFL interest in him.

His teammate Jalin Marshall has been a star in his first NFL season as he has shown improvement from his early NFL days as a punt returner. The former Ohio State halfback and New York Jet so far has six receptions for 135 yards and two touchdowns in the AAF. Those are impressive numbers considering his lack of snaps at wide receiver.

As a former halfback, Marshall’s best traits tend to come from his vision and elusiveness after the catch, but his speed, hands, footwork and ball tracking have also impressed through the first two weeks of AAF action.

Marshall will need to continue to work on the nuances of playing receiver at a high level, but his young age of 23 and impressive resume could get him a look back in the NFL, and possibly as a backup field stretcher/return man for the Texans.
