5. D.J. Humphries, OT, Arizona Cardinals

Here is the deal with the Houston Texans and their offensive line … they need help bad and one way is to use a draft pick to trade for a player who is in a contract year and needs to prove himself on a number of levels.

D.J. Humphries of the Arizona Cardinals is a player in that category because in his final year of his rookie contract. Humphries needs to prove he’s durable and able to be a more consistent player when it comes to being on the field and playing in games, but remember he is also a talented player.

The Texans are in need of improving on the offensive line and if they were to trade a mid-round pick for Humphries — who is a former first round selection (24th overall in 2015) — maybe that could allow the Texans to groom another tackle from this draft. Plus, in the meantime the Texans would keep Deshaun Watson from being sacked and pressured as much in 2019, hopefully.

According to Spotrac.com, Humphries is owed $9.625 million this upcoming season and though he’s only played in no more than 13 games in any of his previous NFL seasons, trying to find different ways to get better on the offensive line is key for the Texans and the addition of a former first round talent like Humphries could be one of those ways.
