The Houston Texans continue to make changes to their roster and coaching staff as the 2018 season comes to a close and 2019 offseason begins.

The Houston Texans have announced that former inside linebacker and 2009 first round draft choice Brian Cushing was hired to take a job within the team’s strength and conditioning staff. Cushing played with the Texans for nine seasons and finished his NFL career with 664 combined tackles, 13.5 sacks, nine forced fumbles, eight interceptions.

Cushing had plenty of accolades in his NFL career; he currently holds the Texans franchise record as the all team leading tackler, the 2009 Associated Press NFL Rookie of the Year Award, 2009 Pro Bowler, and second-team All-Pro in 2009 and 2011.

Despite his PED controversies early in his career, Cushing was one of the most vocal and well-liked players around the organization. Head coach Bill O’Brien always had high praises for Cushing, and the Texans gave him the opportunity to return to the organization as a coach.

After a successful season with the special teams, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle announced that Texans special teams assistant coach Wes Welker has begun to make his rounds around the league and has garnered interviews with the San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers.

Welker was one of the coaches credited in finding wide receiver Keke Coutee in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Coutee proved to be an excellent third option at wide receiver when healthy as a rookie, and he is a promising player if he can put those minor injuries aside moving forward.

Texans’ quarterbacks’ coach Sean Ryan opted to make a lateral move and sign as the quarterback’s coach with the Detriot Lions. This move makes a lot of sense as O’Brien continues to make changes to surround quarterback Deshaun Watson with the coaching staff that he believes can continue to help him develop in the NFL.
