Houston Texans: 4 bold predictions for the offseason
By Avery Duncan
1. Move up to draft LSU cornerback Greedy Williams
Outside of Greedy Williams (and maybe Byron Murphy), the cornerback pool in the 2019 NFL Draft class isn’t deep with day one starters. That shouldn’t stop the Houston Texans from drafting the LSU star though, as he possesses the potential to shore up the Texans pedestrian secondary.
Williams has the size (6-1) to fit the mold of the NFL’s modern adaptation of outside cornerbacks, with the game to back it up. His 19 pass deflections and eight interceptions in only two seasons indicate that Williams is a true ball hawk while his quick twitch athleticism, instincts and length will translate well as a man coverage corner.
As it turns out, the Texans could use a ball-hawking, man coverage cornerback as Johnathan Joseph, and current free agent Kareem Jackson will be 35 years old and 31 years old at the start of the season, respectively.
Being in a place to draft Williams won’t be cheap as Texans sit at pick 23 in the 2019 NFL Draft, while Williams is slated to go in the Top 15 in nearly every online mock draft.
The Texans do have trade assets in either personnel (Mercilus and Miller) or future picks to trade up to get the highly coveted cornerback from the SEC.
