5. Does the team need to improve at TE?

The question is yes, but this question could be answered in a couple different ways. One, the Texans could look at the 2019 NFL Draft as a way to improve at the tight end position from what they had a season ago. Two, they could look into free agency and see who is available that way, or even via trade.

The way the Texans should look at improving at tight end during this offseason is to make sure they find a way to utilize the ones on their roster, because they are young and unproven at the position and deserve at least one more opportunity to show what they are capable of.

In a quick look at the stats from the 2018 season, Ryan Griffin led Texans tight ends with 24 receptions for 305 yards, but no touchdowns. There was also Jordan Thomas, who totaled 215 yards receiving on 20 receptions with four touchdowns. We can’t forget about Jordan Akins with 17 receptions for 225 yards this past season, but again, he also had no touchdowns.

The first two mentioned in Griffin and Thomas could provide a nice one-two punch, but they do need to get more active within the offense as a whole. Griffin can’t afford to have another season without a touchdown, and the Texans need more receptions from Thomas, whom I believe could be a standout in this offense. Thomas was targeted 27 times this season, and to be honest that needs to be doubled next season for the tight end to really show what he’s capable of within the Houston offense in 2019.
