The Houston Texans hold the 23rd overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, and there is a great need for offensive line and elsewhere to help improve the offense next season.
Here is the deal for the Houston Texans: if they don’t add to their offensive line and to their secondary through the 2019 NFL Draft, there is no way the Texans will be able to repeat as AFC South champions, and even more so, gain wins in the playoffs.
This upcoming draft is very important for the Texans not only because they need to add to their roster in select areas, but they have to realize the AFC South will be much stronger next season. The Indianapolis Colts are a strong team with many draft picks on their side, while the Jacksonville Jaguars are sure to rebound from their losing season, too. There is also the Tennessee Titans, who were one win away from reaching the playoffs this past regular season, so there is no way the AFC South will be as winnable as it was this season.
That’s not saying the Texans can’t win the division next season, but it will be a very tough task ahead of them. Their 2019 schedule alone not only consists of their AFC South rivals, but home games against the Denver Broncos, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers and New England Patriots. There are also away games against the Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers, New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Chicago Bears, making for not the kindest schedule for the ’19 season.
Houston has to be feeling pressure on them entering the ’19 draft as Bill O’Brien was on the hot seat early last season, only to overcome the slow start and win the division. Fans will be demanding much more in ’19 with the Texans losing in the Wild Card Round of the AFC Playoffs to the Colts.
Listed is the first 7-round mock draft for the Texans from the Toro Times this offseason, as they look to add players that will add to the play of Deshaun Watson, DeAndre Hopkins, J.J. Watt and others for the ’19 season.
