The Houston Texans didn’t select a draft pick during the 2018 NFL Draft until Day 2, but when they did the Texans did quite well for themselves.

When Day 2 of the 2018 NFL Draft arrived in late April of last year, the Houston Texans used their third round pick on safety Justin Reid and after one full season with the Texans, well he’s done an excellent job and it hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Turron Davenport of ESPN.com wrote about Reid in a recent article, writing about just how good of a selection Reid was for the team this season, his rookie campaign. Davenport wrote:

"“Reid became a force for Houston and was a reliable player both in the box against the run and in pass coverage. “"

Reid was the perfect third round pick for the Texans, as before the season it was well known their defensive backfield needed an upgrade. Reid was that player who provided that upgrade as he finished with 70 solo tackles, one forced fumble, three interceptions and 10 passes defensed.

Reid’s most exciting play was his 101-yard interception return against the Washington Redskins. That play really put Reid on the map of young NFL safeties who will eventually become big-time names to all football fans.

Here are a few more headlines for the Texans on Tuesday:

Anthony R Wood of the TexansWire, a USA Today site, wrote about the most improved players of the Texans for the 2018 season, with one of those players being a kicker, Ka’imi Fairbairn.

"“One area where the UCLA kicker improved was in field goals under 39 yards, from which he missed three of 14 last year, only to make all 20 this season.”"

It was fun watching Fairbairn this season, as it was nice to see him make some game-winning field goals, along with it feeling like the Texans were is pretty good hands each time he went on the field to kick his field goals or extra points.

Fairbairn had an overtime field goal against the Indianapolis Colts early in the season, which by the end of the year proved to be huge in terms of winning the AFC South championship.

John Newby of 247Sports.com listed some important dates for the Texans this offseason in a recent article with one of them being the East-West Shrine Game on Jan. 19:

"“There are a multitude of starters that have taken part in this college all-star game and enjoyed solid careers in the league.”"

All of the college All-Star games are interesting in their own way, so it is worth watching if you want to see some quality football talent that might be flying under-the-radar early in the draft process. The article mentioned that Andre Hal once played in this game.

It is good to see the Texans are using this past 11-win season as motivation to be better in 2019.

Even more than that, there is the goal to be better in the playoffs as being one-and-done didn’t live up their their own high standards to eventually become champions of the league.
