Kareem Jackson and Tyrann Mathieu

Despite the struggles, the Texans have had at the cornerback position, Kareem Jackson and Tyrann Mathieu were a great tandem at safety before the injuries forced them to play out of their positions. Jackson had one of his best seasons in 2018 since being drafted in the first round in 2010, he had 87 combined tackles, 17 passes defended, five tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, two interceptions, one sack, and one quarterback hit.

Mathieu had a phenomenal first season with the defense, he had 89 combined tackles, eight passes defended, two interceptions, five tackles for loss, one fumble recovery, three sacks, and four quarterback hits. Both players have been vocal about wanting to run it back with this team, and although money won’t be an issue, the Texans will have to find a spot for both of them with the emergence of Justin Reid. Jackson and Mathieu have shown they are pro caliber players at the safety position.

Both players will have a market in free agency with teams lined up with the desire to sign them due to the good seasons they had. The Texans will bring at last one of them back with Reid and Andre Hal being the only viable options at safety that are under contract for next season.
