Houston Texans signing offensive tackle to future contract

The Houston Texans are adding another offensive tackle to their group of offensive lineman.

Houston Texans signed offensive tackle Rick Leonard to a future/reserve contract for the 2019 season. Leonard will be able to participate in the Texans training camp activities and preseason games. Leonard was drafted in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints. Leonard will be joining offensive tackle Roderick Johnson as another player from the Florida State football program.

He was waived by the Saints after the roster cutdowns to the final roster for the regular season, he spent his rookie season on the Saints, Los Angeles Rams, and Arizona Cardinals practice squad prior to signing with the Texans today.

The Texans also signed tight end Jerrell Adams, running back Josh Ferguson, outside linebackers Davin BellamyChris Landrum, offensive guard Maurquice Shakir, offensive tackle David Steinmetz, and wide receivers Jester Weah and Isaac Whitney to future reserve contracts.

The offensive line currently consists of Julién Davenport, Roderick Johnson, Senio Kelemete, Greg Mancz, Nick Martin, Martinas Rankin, Zach Fulton, Maurquice Shakir, and David Steinmetz. Offensive tackles Seantrel Henderson and Kendall Lamm are going to be unrestricted free agents this offseason. General manager Brian Gaine and the front office will continue to scout and assemble the 90 man roster as they begin to prepare for the 2019 NFL season.

The offensive line will continue to be a point of emphasis moving forward as they continue to build an offensive line that is capable of protecting quarterback Deshaun Watson in the pocket. Watson was sacked an NFL high 62 times this season.
