By Jair Lopez
With the Wild Card Round coming to an end, the Houston Texans are now on the clock after being eliminated in an upset defeat against the Indianapolis Colts.
Houston Texans general manager Brian Gaine and the front office’s horizon is looking clearer with their first draft slot being announced after the Los Angeles Chargers vs. Baltimore Ravens and Philadelphia Eagles vs. Chicago Bears game concluded. The playoff teams order in the 2019 NFL Draft goes as followed:
21. Seattle Seahawks (10-6)
22. Baltimore Ravens (10-6)
23. Houston Texans (11-5)
24. Oakland Raiders (acquired from the Chicago Bears in Khalil Mack trade) (12-5)
The Texans have until April 25 when they have to submit their selection to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell as he announces the future player of the Houston Texans. The front office has started to ramp up the process as they continue to scout and interview future NFL prospects in the NFL Combine, Senior Bowl among other events where players hope to demonstrate they have the talent to make the transition from college to the professional level.
The 2019 NFL Draft will take place in Nashville, Tennesee. Gaine and the front office will enter their second season with the Texans where they hope to replicate the success they had in their first draft class. Gaine will have the ability to draft an NFL prospect in the first two rounds after having traded their first two draft picks in the 2018 NFL Draft to draft quarterback Deshaun Watson and trade Brock Osweiler’s contract to the Cleveland Browns.
Texans will have ample ammunition as they hold all their draft picks with the exception of their fourth rounder which they traded to the Denver Broncos to acquire veteran wide receiver, Demaryius Thomas. They will also have Seattle Seahawks 2019 second draft pick after they acquire left tackle Duane Brown from the Texans in a trade last season.
