Houston Texans make roster move ahead of Wild Card game

The Houston Texans signed defensive back A.J. Hendy from the Los Angeles Chargers practice squad.

The Houston Texans PR announced on their official Twitter account that they signed defensive back A.J. Hendy from the Los Angeles Chargers practice squad on Wednesday afternoon. The Texans had to open up a roster spot and they placed defensive back and special teams contributor Mike Tyson on the IR. Tyson was listed on the injury report with an ankle and knee injury and was unable to practice the last couple of days.

With the possibility of Tyson missing the majority of the playoffs the Texans opted to place him on the IR and bring a healthy player capable of contributing on special teams. Tyson was promoted to prior to Week 6 against the Buffalo Bills and played in10 games this season. He was unfortunately hurt late against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the last game of the regular season, and he finished the season with five combined tackles and with one pass deflection.

Hendy came into the NFL after going undrafted in 2016, he spent a short stint with the Miami Dolphins and the Chargers before signing with the Texans. He played one game with the Miami Dolphins his rookie season but recorded no tackles.

Hendy signed with the Chargers after he was released from the Dolphins, he spent the training camp and preseason with the Chargers and recorded six combined tackles through three games. However, Hendy was waived during the final roster cutdowns towards the final roster but he was signed to the Chargers practice squad. The Texans signed Hendy with the intention of utilizing him on special teams, if needed, against the Indianapolis Colts in the Wild Card game of the playoffs.
