The Houston Texans bring back inside linebacker Josh Keyes to the active roster.
The Houston Texans are back to 53 players on their active roster with the signing of inside linebacker Josh Keyes. The Texans PR announced the transaction on their official Twitter account. Keyes was signed by the Texans in the offseason and he spent the entire training camp and preseason with the team. Keyes had a solid preseason contributing both in the defense and special teams. He had a combined of 23 tackles and made plenty of plays in the preseason.
The Texans have now filled their last roster spot after placing wide receiver Demaryius Thomas, inside linebacker Brian Peters, and cornerback Kayvon Webster on IR. Besides signing Keyes, the Texans decided to sign former Texans inside linebacker Tyrell Adams from the San Francisco 49ers practice squad and promote rookie wide receiver Steven Mitchell from the Texans practice squad.
The defense now has Bernardrick McKinney, Zach Cunningham, Dylan Cole, Peter Kalambayi, Adams, and Keyes at inside linebacker. The majority of the snaps on the defense have gone to McKinney, Cunningham, and Cole so Keyes will spend the majority of his snaps on special teams. Keyes played three games for the Texans defense this season and had five combined tackles before being waived with the return of Cole from the IR.
The Texans are getting their roster ready as they go into the final game of the regular season against the Jacksonville Jaguars and attempt to win the AFC South for the third time in five seasons under head coach Bill O’Brien.
